We are delighted to share that Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet has just this evening approved a recommendation to allocate £13,000 of Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy funding to Lichfield Squash Club towards a squash court refurbishment project at King Edward VI School Sports Centre.
The decision remains subject to the formal call-in period and grant agreement process, so there are still some important steps to complete before everything is finally confirmed. However, this is a very positive development for the club and for squash in Lichfield.
The proposed project is intended to improve and protect the two squash courts at King Edward VI School, which are now the only remaining squash courts in Lichfield following the loss of provision at Friary Grange.
The project includes:
Refurbishment of the squash court walls and playing surfaces
Improvements to the spectator/viewing area behind the courts
Protective floor covering to help safeguard the courts during school exams and other non-squash use
Improved storage for coaching equipment, club equipment and floor protection
Improvements to the corridor/access area to make the route to the courts more welcoming and visible.
The Council’s Cabinet report specifically recognised the demand for the courts following the loss of the Friary Grange courts, and noted that these are now the only remaining courts in Lichfield.
A lot of work has gone into getting the project to this stage. We now look forward to working with the school and partners on the next steps.
We look forward to updating further about these exciting plans.
We also must add our congratulations to our neighbours Tamworth Squash & Racketball Club who have also secured funding in this round to refurbish their courts too. Fantastic investment and backing for squash facilities locally! ... See MoreSee Less

The squash leagues have now been refreshed and the new cycle is live, with matches to be played by 18th July.
Congratulations to Gary Flockhart, who won the Premier Division in the last cycle.
A special mention also to the four players who completed all of their matches and were entered into the MyCourts credit prize draw. The winners were:

It was particularly encouraging to see a very active Premier Division, and hopefully we can build on that momentum across all divisions during this cycle. The new format is designed to make matches more achievable, so please try to get your fixtures arranged early and spread them across the month where possible.

We’re pleased to announce that our new-look club leagues are now live, following a really positive response to our recent member survey. Thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute.
Based on the feedback received, we’ve introduced a number of changes to make the leagues easier to play, more flexible and more enjoyable for everyone:
• 5-player divisions (fewer matches, easier to complete)
• 4-week league cycles (quicker turnaround, more momentum)
• Weekly League Night (Tuesdays) alongside Club Night with a dedicated court for pre-arranged league matches
• WhatsApp groups per division to make arranging matches easier
• Monthly prize draw for players who complete all their matches (with MyCourts credit prizes)
• Recommendation to use a single yellow dot ball for a better playing experience
Our aim is simple — to get more matches played, reduce the hassle of organising games and keep things fun and competitive across all levels.
The new league cycle is now underway, and it’s not too late to get involved if anyone would like to join — just drop us a message.
While we were disappointed not to make it past the quarter finals, we’re really proud to have played a key role in organising the event and helping bring clubs together for what turned out to be a fantastic evening of squash.
There were some excellent matches on show, played in a great spirit, and it was brilliant to see such a strong turnout from across the county.
Congratulations to Four Oaks Squash Club on becoming the first ever Staffordshire Cup winners, and to Tamworth Squash & Racketball Club on being crowned League Champions.
From a Lichfield perspective, we finished a solid 4th in the league, and were delighted to see Pete Knowles recognised as our Player of the Season — fully deserved after a superb contribution, particularly in the second half of the campaign.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event —players, organisers and Wolverhampton for hosting.
Thanks to all who have supported the Lichfield Team too. Roll on next season! ... See MoreSee Less
